Chevrolet Chevelle – Work continues!

We started work renovating a 1970’s Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 this year and shared some first photos on our blog: The greatest muscle car of all time? back in July. We also have photos of other renovations to share with you, including a 2009 Land Rover Defender, a VW Camper, a VW Transporter and a 1970s Triumph Spitfire. Stuart and Ricky get to work on the Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454

We’ve got a soft spot for this Chevrolet Chevelle which is almost 50 years old. We’ve captured some of the processes involved in restoring this muscle car in our workshop. Both Stuart and Ricky have been involved in this renovation with work to almost all areas of the car’s bodywork. Here’s Stuart on the bonnet, which as you can see is in need of some TLC.

Meanwhile, Ricky was taking a closer look at the inside of the doors. You will recognise the iconic Hugger Orange colour that the Chevy was famous for back in the day.

Stripping back all of the interiors of a car takes time and patience to get right. There are a lot of layers to a car, not always revealed to the naked eye. For any bodywork to take place, mechanical functions, wiring and key components often need to be removed.

The team spend a lot of their time looking up at the underside of cars. It’s all part of the process!

Looking at the Chevrolet Chevelle like this you really see all the skills required to repair this muscle car. Without its bumper, bonnet or boot the car looks unrecognisable from its racing days. The structure of the car needs to be sound before the team can slowly piece it back together.
